Daniel Portilla moved to Edmonton from Ecuador and was surprised to find there were no padel clubs in Edmonton so like a true entrepreneur, he decided to do something about it. Portilla eventually met Diana Cevallos and Luciano Luz, recent arrivals from Brazil who also loved playing padel and they joined forces and opened Padel Zone, the first padel club in Edmonton. They also created the Edmonton Padel Association with the intent of growing the padel community further. Padel is another racket sport, similar to tennis and squash, but played in an enclosed court making it fast and strategic.

In addition to three padel courts the Padel Zone also has four pickleball courts, and two ping pong tables. If padel takes off in popularity like pickleball the founders of Padel Zone can take a bow for introducing a new sport to Edmontonions. You can play a part in the discovery and spread of this new sport by heading down to the Padel Zone, 3260 16 Street in Nisku.
