After previous attempts failed the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) approved the application from Camrose Resort Casino to build a new casino in south Edmonton. The AGLC decision overrode the protestations of Edmonton City Council and residents in south Edmonton against the construction of a new casino.

AGLC is the Government of Alberta's Crown commercial enterprise and agency that oversees the gaming, liquor and cannabis industries in Alberta. This decision begs the question why an arm of the provincial government can override the decisions and desires of local governments and residents.
