Bird, Lime and Neuron are the 3 companies that have their e-scooters plying the streets of Edmonton. All 3 e-scooter companies have endeavoured to improve the e-scooter experience for both riders and residents.

For riders there is a level of intoxication test at night and a reaction time test. Bird has sensors that can detect if a rider is weaving too much, braking too hard or riding double. Neuron includes and incentivizes helmet use for each scooter, downhill braking assist, can detect if the scooter tips over and users can also share their location via their app.

Residents are concerned about where the devices end up being parked, riders using them on sidewalks, and riders who pass on shared-use paths. All 3 companies are addressing residents concerns. Each of the companies has restricted parking zones and Bird devices are equipped with a chip that can tell the difference between the sidewalk and the road.

e-Scooters and e-Bikes can and do provide alternative modes of active transportation and that is why the City has selected has selected Bird Canada and Lime, who have previously operated in Edmonton, as vendors, with the possibility of future expansion. In addition the program has been updated to a three-year, year-round term licence of occupation allowing vendors to run when weather permits. A new vendor fees have

been implemented to address concerns over fleet management, parking issues and street clutter and rules for riders will be communicated through the vendor's apps and the city's website.
