Edmonton's Conservatory of Music has a 121 year history and next year will star a new chapter with their move to the Winspear Centre. Conservatory instructors and students will begin using the Winspear July 1, 2025 and full integration of the conservatory should be complete when the Winspear expansion opens in 2026. Alyssa Paterson, the director of operations and strategic initiatives for the Winspear and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra thinks having the Conservatory of Music in the same facility will help make the Winspear the hub for music in our city.
The Winspear Centre has been a renowned music performance event centre since it first opened in September 1997 but expansion is set to change it to Edmonton’s music centre. The expansion includes a new state-of-the-art, 550-person performance venue called the Music Box, classrooms, studios, and collaborative spaces which will be welcome additions to Edmonton’s performing arts scene. To bring the expansion to completion, this final fundraising push aims to raise $12 million.
After listening to "elevator" and and "other" music in public settings a hearty "Bravo" to the Winspear Centre and City for bringing music played by master musicians of the Edmonton Symphony to LRT patrons waiting for a train or people just listening. Its a pilot program that I hope is extended for the LRT and hopefully in other public places where music is played.
? ENJOY ?
