Last night we attended the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's Very Merry Pops and it was fantastic. The Winspear was decked out in its finest holiday attire, a 100+ member choir was seated and waiting to sing, to guest conductor Bob Bernhardt took his place behind the podium but never said a word. Then soloist Mikaela Bennett came out and began to sing O Come All Ye Faithful and with the full orchestra and choir they lifted the house up to a spiritual realm where the all generations faithfully come. In all our years of attending the "pops" I believe O Come All Ye Faithful was the single most moving performance ever. That opening number was the launch of a memorable evening of music.
Tickets are available for the afternoon performance today and an evening performance tomorrow.
No matter your musical genre there's bound to be a sound that pleases your listening ear. From the variety of musicians & music at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, to hard rock, punk and/or The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra which has dedicated August to playing outdoors, there's something for most music lovers. Are you going to join in?
After listening to "elevator" and and "other" music in public settings a hearty "Bravo" to the Winspear Centre and City for bringing music played by master musicians of the Edmonton Symphony to LRT patrons waiting for a train or people just listening. Its a pilot program that I hope is extended for the LRT and hopefully in other public places where music is played.
? ENJOY ?
