Finishing touches which may take a couple of months are all that's left to be completed on the newly constructed Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre. If and when application for a Category 2 designation from the Union Cycliste Internationale is accepted the new velodrome would qualify Edmonton to host international cycling events in addition to serving both community recreation and high-performance sport. The new velodrome feature a 250-metre indoor velodrome, fitness centre, climbing wall, gymnasiums, multi-purpose studios and an indoor play space.

The velodrome will be connected to the rehabilitated Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre, and both are set to open together in early 2026.

Work on the new $153M Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre continues and is scheduled for completion in 2026. The new centre will include a 250-metre indoor velodrome, walking/running track, fitness centre, bouldering wall, gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms and studios, an indoor play space and have above ground access to a pool at the Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre.

Once complete the city will seek the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Category Two designation which would qualify the city to host World Cups, Continental Championships, Junior World Championships and other national and international cycling events.
