CTV NEWS obtained a memo to sent to Edmonton city council from the Alberta government concerning new guidelines to be released in December about where photo radar can be used in Alberta cities, including Edmonton. The province has called photo radar a "cash cow," and banned its use on the Anthony Henday and according to the memo will also include Yellowhead Trail, Whitemud Drive, Stony Plain Road, Calgary Trail and Gateway Boulevard. Although the city collected around $29 million from photo enforcement at 422 sites in 2023, Councillor Jo-Anne Wright said enforcement is about keepng the roads safe, not about making money.
