Post pandemic found that many retailers had vacated downtown. Business leaders are now saying that initiatives for bold beautification, flexible bylaws and pedestrian-friendly corridors are paying off with new storefronts offering more places for people to shop, dine, and connect. Heather Thomson of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce says the next step is to populate the downtown and increasing foot traffic full-time, making it an around-the-clock destination. There are some promising indications that a resuscitation may be underway and that downtown may show vital signs of life again.
