Edmonton, like many other cities is considering ways to cover the costs of public transit. Ridership is down since the pandemic which meant both Provincial and Federal governments were called upon to provide emergency funding to help cover the larger than usual shortfall in transit fare revenues. Ridership fares do not cover the annual operating budget of the Transit system so a creative solution for funding the shortfall long term is required.
