Hello Ward Karhiio,
This is the first email newsletter since the Oct. 20th municipal election. I appreciate all the support from the community that got me here for another term as your City Councillor representing Ward Karhiio.
I hope this newsletter can be a place for accurate information about what’s going on in the community and at City Hall, engagement on topics important to you, and to hear some of my perspectives when it comes to decision-making. While we may not always agree on everything, I welcome respectful debate and conversation, and always your experiences and stories.
My role as a City Councillor is to elevate your concerns and turn them into policy actions. While I cannot direct all city operations, Team Karhiio and I can help you navigate the bureaucracy of city government and do our best to achieve outcomes, whether it’s to clear snow on a pathway or widen an arterial road to remove gridlock. No matter the issue, however small or big, resolution comes from collaboration and input from everyone, including you. So I look forward to working with you.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays this season, and please take the time to rest, recoup, and connect with family and friends. During the holiday period, our office will be closed from December 22 2025 - January 5 2026. We will see you in the new year!
Stay safe and healthy,
Keren
Keren's update is posted below.
We are about 5 months away from Edmonton's next election, so we are going to see an increase in political posturing by candidates who are running for various positions.
In her Newsletter Update Ward Karhiio Councillor Keren Tang's mentions that she is running for re-election and her monthly e-newsletter will be transitioning to focus on campaign-related updates and information.
I don't know if Keren Tang has confirmed her intent to run again for Ward Karhiio in October's civil election but she continues to do what she has done
Here's the latest newsletter from Keren Tang regarding Ward Karhiio.
The recent snowfall has rekindled the problem of what to do about parked cars that impede snow removal on residential streets. A number of councillors shared their frustrations with the lack of effect parking bans have and considered what more can be done to alleviate the problem, including fines and towing.
Councillors Keren Tang, Andrew Knack and Erin Rutherford articulated the problems parked vehicles pose and David Jones, branch manager for bylaw enforcement shared that the lack of bylaw officers hinders enforcement of parking bans.
Keren Tang's first newsletter for 2025 has just been published. Keren's newsletters are great for keeping citizens of Ward Karhiio informed.
The majority of about 400 Edmonton residents that were recently polled expressed their desire for a new mayor and city council after the next election. The poll, done in late August and early September, revealed 60 per cent of Edmontonians think Sohi should be replaced, 26 per cent think Sohi and councillors deserve to be re-elected while 14 per cent didn’t know. As regards city councillors, 57 per cent of those polled said it is “time for a change”, 26 per cent felt their councillors should be re-elected and 17 per cent said they didn’t know.
One of the biggest concerns of those polled was the 8.9 percent property tax rate and with more difficult budget decisions coming this fall its almost guaranteed that the tax rate will be a major concern when Edmontonians have their say at the ballot boxes in October 2025.
Political writer Dave Cournoyer thinks Mayor Sohi and councillors need to do a better job of communicating the direction he wants to lead the city in,” Cournoyer told CityNews.
There are plenty activities planned for Millwoods/Meadows in June and Keren Tang will be at many of them. Go out, join in meet Keren at the same time.
Most Edmontonians don't really understand what the the City's new District Plan Policyis all about. Thanks to Lorne Gunter who scoured the fine print and the volunteer group BetterInfill.ca residents who have been sharing infuriating glimpses into the new district plan’s shocking details. Better Infill thinks what is proposed in Edmonton’s district plans are far more radical than proposed changes in any other Canadian city.
What treally is being proposed in the City's new District Plan Policy and who is driving this massive change to Edmonton's landscape? Call your City Councillor to ask then how they voted and why? Contact Keren Tang for Ward Karhiio -780-496-8142 or keren.tang@edmonton.ca.
