Last week the City completed the dismantling of homeless camps regardless of the protests from residents of the camps and the Coalition for Justice and Human Rights who claim to represent those living in the camps. The Coalition for Justice and Human Rights has launched a lawsuit and injunction against the City. On Tuesday Court of Kings Bench Justice Jonathan Martin is expected to decide whether the Coalition for Justice and Human Rights is qualified to represent the interests of people displaced by encampment teardowns and proceed with its legal action.

Although not the same level of wisdom that King Solomon displayed, Lorne Gunter writes that Justice Kent Davidson's ruling may be best for the time being.The Coalition for Justice and Human Rights’ are taking up the fight on behalf of the homeless and their full lawsuit will heard in January and there is a chance Justice Davidson's ruling may be overwritten.

The plans of Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton to clear 8 homeless camps next week has been put on hold until Monday when the the matter is brought before the court. Sam Mason, president of the Coalition for Justice and Human Rights is concerned that there is not adequate housing for al the people who will be displaced. According to the Edmonton Coalition on Housing and Homelessness there are more than 3,100 homeless in the city with 1,126 shelter spaces available.
