ENU - URGENT COMMUNITY ACTION NEEDED

💥 ACTION NEEDED: Speak In Favour of Small Improvements to Zoning on June 30 🔥

If you signed the Edmonton Neighbourhoods United petition because you care about what's happening to your community it’s time to take the next step.

On Monday, June 30 — yes, the middle of the Canada Day long weekend — City Council is holding a public hearing at City Hall to vote on some very modest changes to the new zoning bylaw.

These include:

·   Reducing the number of units on a standard 50-foot lot from 8 to 6

·   Limiting side entrances facing neighbouring homes to 2

·   Putting minor limits on midblock rezonings

These are bare minimum changes, but they’re facing strong opposition from developers.

You can help with THREE things this week:

1. Email your City Councillor.

Tell them you support the amendments proposed to the zoning bylaws on June 30 because they reduce the bylaw's most extreme impacts. Use your own words. Keep it short. Tell them what infill has done to your street, your neighbourhood, your peace of mind, and that you want it better managed.

📧 Find your councillor here:

https://www.edmonton.ca/city_government/mayor-city-councillors

Or send your message to: city.clerk@edmonton.ca (addressed to Mayor and Council, care of the City Clerk)

2. Register to speak at the public hearing (in person or online) here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjK1JQOPRWVORUVKsSbRn3yLN5E9vcVLu3nifMO4N1ZfmgFg/viewform

This is your chance to speak directly to Council. Tell them you support the proposed amendments — that they are a small step in the right direction.

Date: Monday, June 30, at City Hall. The hearing begins at 9:30 and will last many hours. Expect to spend several hours at city hall. You may wish to come and go.

How to register: Go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjK1JQOPRWVORUVKsSbRn3yLN5E9vcVLu3nifMO4N1ZfmgFg/viewform

📌 Say you wish to speak to Agenda Item 3.1, which tightens some of the rules around scale and location, or to Agenda item 3.32, which lowers the number of units from 8 to 6. When you register you will be asked whether you support or oppose the proposed amendments. PLEASE INDICATE YOU SUPPORT THEM.

3. Come to City Hall and support the speakers.

Meet new neighbours, connect and show your support for returning our democracy for our communities. Uniting together is one of the most powerful tools.

These proposed amendments don’t address the worst parts of the bylaw, but this is a good start in the right direction — and they may be the only improvements possible before the October 2025 election.

** Developers are lobbying hard this week. We need to push back harder. **

Let’s flood their inboxes. Let’s fill the hearing. Let’s show City Council that Edmonton's neighbourhoods are UNITING!
