Prp-Palestine protestors were ousted from UofA by City Police shut down their gathering. Not to be deterred some of the protestors moved to Churchill Square and outside City Hall. A group then moved indoors to attend council’s meeting at 1:30 p.m. and met a stronger security presence than usual.Mayor Amarjeet Sohi pleaded with the chamber after several requests to the gallery to remain quiet after they interjected verbally, snapped their fingers to show support, or scoffed at responses they disliked. The protesters seemed mostly concerned with the way Edmonton Police broke up the UofA protest.

Although I haven't personally visited that many restaurants but I know others who have and I keep from them about the burgeoning restaurant scene in Edmonton. I'm sure 150 professionals who comprised the judging panel tried to be fair but I wonder where the judges were from and if Edmonton may have been too far afield for them to venture. Although no restaurants made the list but Bar Bricco at 40 and Baiju & Little Hong King at number 50 are 2 bars that did. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************The list of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants of 2024 was revealed on Monday wit

INCOMPETENCE UNMASKEDWe had hoped debates over COVID-related issues in schools were long behind us.Unfortunately, deep into 2024, the Alberta Federation of Labour was still engaged in a lawsuit to give school boards the authority to slap masks back on kids.Let’s be clear about this, they were arguing not that kids should be allowed to wear face-coverings to school - their right to do so has not been under scrutiny. They were arguing that school boards should still be able to force all students to mask up, or be able to deny an education to a student who refuses.A three-judge panel finally slapped them down and said they had no legal basis for their argument that school boards retain this auth

Keith Gerein is a journalist with the Edmonton Journal and his column today is in favor of the single-use item bylaw. He makes a very good argument, which I agree with. What he didn't give as many lines to what he referred to as an overreaching, foolish attempt at social control. And maybe it is, though at least some of the early evidence suggests that opinion is not as extensive as you might assume and that is of concern.I repeat that I am in favor and practiced the essence of the single-items use before it became a bylaw. My concern is that little by little governments at all levels are their positions and powers to extend control (bylaw, etc.) over soft issues such as Edmonton''s bylaw on

Mayor Sohi announced the formation of a 16 member task force on housing and houselessness saying they need to look beyond the issue which has been studied time & again. This task force is to look at reducing bureaucratic roadblocks, implementing solutions and finding creative, innovative ways of unlocking solutions including more non-market, supportive housing, as well as affordable housing. The task force is tasked with issues & problems that many communities are facing and we can only hope they offer solutions that don't depend on more from the public purse.

With the growing interest in alternate fuels international eyes are on the hydrogen industry in Alberta. Edmonton hosted the third installment of its annual Canadian Hydrogen Convention at the Convention Centre, What started three years ago with a modest 3,000, ballooned to a whopping 8,000 attendees this year as it ran from April 29 to May 1. Justin Riemer, CEO of Emissions Reduction Alberta said “Innovation always takes a number of years to take hold.” Innovation involves vision, success & failure. The vision for hydrogen is big but so is Alberta's expertise so they do not lose sight of their vision of hydrogen buses, hydrogen trains and even hydrogen communities.
