28 representatives of Edmonton's African and Caribbean communities say the Anti-Black Racism Action Plan has been "gathering dust" since it was unanimously approved by city council last August. They say City administration has actively engaged in delaying tactics, obstructionism, and attempts to pit communities against one others.According to the city, many recommendations are being addressed through other initiatives but from what African and Caribbean communities say it is either not enough or the wrong initiatives.

On Tuesday Edmonton Public School trustees voted to bring police officers back into public schools. It is expected that changes will be made to previous SRO program and the timeline for reinstatement of the SROs has not yet been announced.
NEW POLITICAL PARTY FOR EDMONTON ELECTION

An Edmonton group, TapYeg is the first out of the gate to take advantage of Bill 20 to establish a party to run candidates in next year's city elections. TapYeg's president Jeffrey Hansen-Carlson and members believe the city can run more efficiently promises to cut taxes within 100 days of being elected, maintain peace and order, and reboot relations with the province under a centrist vision.

Project Gaslight is the name given to the many attempted extortions, shootings and fires targeting the South Asian home-building community. The incidents happened between October 2023 and January 2024.
INITIATIVES PROPOSED TO TRANSFORM RICE HOWARD WAY INTO A LICENSED ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT

Rice Howard Way has long been one of the places in the downtown area where people gather. If a proposal by the community and public services committee is presented to and accepted by council in May, Rice Howard Way will become even more of an attraction. It will be proposed that Rice Howard Way become an alcohol-licensed, pedestrian-friendly area every Saturday starting June and continue at least until the end of August. Another aspect of the proposal is the closure of Rice Howard Way to vehicles from 7 a.m. on Saturdays until 10 a.m. on Sundays making it a pedestrian friendly.

CYBER SECUITY BREACH CAUSES LONDON DRUGS TO CLOSE STORES IN WESTEREN CANADA

London Drugs discovered that there had been a cyber security breach on Sunday. When the incident was discovered London Drugs immediately undertook countermeasures to protect its network and data and thought it best to close all stores in Western Canada until further notice. They will inform the public when stores reopen.

There will be a meeting of the Community and Public Services Committee this morning at 9:30 am. The Committee will discuss the creation of an Entertainment District on Rice Howard Way, wherein consumption of alcohol would be permitted. The Agenda Review Committee will meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am, followed by a non-regular meeting of City CouncilĀ at 9:30 am. At the latter meeting, Council will discuss Community Revitalization Levy Rate and Supplementary Levy Rate Bylaws, as well as the 2024 Property Tax and Supplementary Property Tax Bylaw (more on this below!). The Legislature is on break, and there are no Committee meetings. Sittings will resume on Monday, May 6th.Alberta is under a province-wide fire restriction due to extremely dry conditions. Outdoor fires are prohibited in public lands except for Calgary's forest protection zone. The early start to the wildfire season, coupled with drought conditions has heightened the risk of wildfires spreading quickly.The Alberta government is investing $8 million in the Alberta Media Fund to support the publishing and entertainment industries, including book and magazine publishers, sound recording agencies, and film producers.
